We’re on a Boat

Monday, November 4, 2024

We are aboard the Island Princess for 10 days. A couple days ago we got an email saying that we had been upgraded from an inside cabin (cheap and dark) to a window room. I didn’t think I would care if I had a window – the example picture showed the bed in front of the window, so looking out would involve being on your knees on the bed. I didn’t think I would do much of that. Also, I really like sleeping in the absolute dark – you don’t know if it’s day or night, which is what I call good sleeping weather.

Turns out that the bed is not by the window, and I do like having a window. Quite a bit, as a matter of fact. It is sunshine-y, which is nice, but it is nice to stand and look out or turn my chair to look out. Surprisingly, I think I like it more than a balcony. My window is all inside and temperature controlled and instant. Look! There it is outside. Balcony requires moving and planning and tiny amounts of effort. So, right now, I am going with window is better.

I am a VIP for the first time on this cruise (fifteen cruises, including the one they cancelled in April 2020). They are going to do my laundry. We get to go to a lounge some time or other. We got a complimentary mini bar set up in our room. We asked if we could switch it out for all Coke Zero, but no. We could get real Coke, but no Coke Zero, so we are going to have drink drinks we make in our room. Tomorrow is election day, so I guess that tracks.

We went to see a magician tonight. He made me laugh and he did good magic. His name was Magic Ben, which is funny because we know someone else named Magic Ben. We visited the piano bar guy and listened to music and that was lovely.

We had dinner in the buffet and there was a roasted turkey. I had some, then I had bananas Foster, then I had a salad, then I came back with a roll, a slice of turkey, a corn fritter, two slices of tomato, two pieces of lettuce, and a heap of mayonnaise. Keith looked at it and said, “That is the saddest little collection of stuff ever.” I rolled my eyes and said, “You don’t see it?”

It was a deconstructed turkey sandwich. I constructed it and it was OUTSTANDING. I would have made another, but I was full (not that that matters) and it was time to go play a game show – Majority Rules. Good fun.

We hope everyone has a wonderful day today – hopefully it will not be remembered as the day before.
