I read an article a week or so ago that worldsbestcinnamonrolls.com had given a Minneapolis bakery, Isles Bun & Coffee, the best of 2025 award. We went there to check it out. While we were en route, I checked their website and under the menu it said, “All our goodies are made from scratch, formed by hand and baked to order. For that reason, we ask for one day notice for processing your order.”
Uh-oh. Were they not a coffee shop? I saw that I could buy a box of coffee for $19. Huh.
Nancy and I agreed that if they were a regular coffee shop, they have the worst website ever.
Turns out they have the worst website ever. There was a line out the door to a regular coffee shop. We didn’t have to wait long and we were in. There were cinnamon rolls, caramel sticky buns, and caramel pecan rolls. Donna and Keith kept it simple – cinnamon rolls. Nancy and I went for the gusto with caramel pecan rolls. I want to be clear that caramel pecan rolls didn’t say with frosting. I don’t think pecan rolls usually have frosting. BUT I thought it would be great if they did, so I assumed I would be getting a sticky caramel roll with gobs of frosting and then pecans on top. I should not have thought that, because I got what I ordered: caramel and pecans. It was really good – the roll itself was really light and airy – but it didn’t have frosting, and I think I went for frosting.

Don’t worry. We bought four more for breakfast tomorrow. I got a cinnamon roll.
Next, we went not too far down I-35W to the Museum of Russian Art. There is a display of over 1,000 nesting dolls (until it closes Sunday). We have never been there before. It was very interesting and fun to see (on video) how they are made, and to watch them getting painted.

This guy with the hat was my favorite. He is decorated with paint and straw. STRAW!

There was a giant one beautifully made out of cardboard. Donna was the only one lithe enough to get inside.

There was a gallery of watercolor mushrooms that were stunning in their realism. There was a photo of the artist, who graduated from art school in 1991. He looked old (sorry, guy. Not OLD, but old. I graduated in 1986). I am hoping he went back to school a little later in his life. I found an art chair!! I was absolutely thrilled. I love sitting. Just love it. I always want to just sit and look at art. There are sometimes benches in galleries, but they are far from the art and are basically places to crash because you are exhausted by the standing and looking. This was a real art chair you could move around. I always want an art chair for going to the zoo. I just want to sit and watch the tigers for a while. I would call it a zoo chair, if I had it at the zoo. (You can’t see the chair in the pictures, but rest assured that I am sitting on it)

There were two other floors – top floor was a display of abstract art.

The basement level was a mixed exhibit of Russian art, including recently done cartoons. The cartoons were painful, given our current circumstance.

I like art that is so clear from a distance and smudgy close up.

Sometimes we laugh. A lot.

I got a Harry Potter puzzle for my birthday, so we dug into it. The idea was to separate the pieces, maybe do the border, because the whole puzzle looked hard – lots of brown. It has the hardest border of ever!! It is all the same, so you have to just try every piece in every spot!!! AUGH!!!!! I got a few pieces together and surrendered. I decided you have to do this puzzle backwards – start in the middle and work out. I didn’t even know that was a possible thing to want to do with a puzzle. Nancy persevered and is getting the edges done. I made part of a train. Donna is working on words/letters. There has been a fair amount of groaning, but also some serious cheering.

It started snowing about 7:00 and it is really coming down. I have checked at least ten times to see if school is cancelled tomorrow. I heard that it will be an e-learning day, if they do call it, but I don’t have to show up for that, so I would get a day off. The sisters are here, so I want a day off. We can puzzle.
Keith and I set off about 8:30 to pick up BOGO pizzas from Tono. Our new tires worked beautifully on the snow. There weren’t too many people on the road, and we saw some spinning tires at intersections, but we got back without incident. The pizzas were terrific, and I am stuffed for the second time today.

Those aren’t all our pizzas. There were other people out and about, too. Donna’s is the leafy one.
I guess I should go make my lunch. If I don’t, we will have school for sure.
True confession time… When I first just glanced at the photo 1) for some unexplained reason, I thought it was in your kitchen, and 2) I thought “REALLY??? They ate all of those pizzas?” What is WRONG with me?? We went to the Museum of Russian Art a few years ago – great experience, and it looks even better now. Thanks for the photos – good memories! Party and puzzle on….
I love the idea we could have a pizza oven in our kitchen.
