We are officially starting our Bu to Bu trip (TM by Alexander) – Bucharest to Budapest. I was able to fall asleep for about half-an-hour on the flight to Bucharest. The steward gave us “scrambled egg sandwiches” (egg salad), which I thought was adorable. There was no inflight entertainment (WHAT?), so I put on my audio book and eventually got to sleep. I woke up with Keith taking a picture out the window (the potd), a bump of landing, and my ear so completely plugged up that I could hardly hear a thing. The airport is out of town…to say the least. He took the first of these next two because it looked like the Rhonda Valley in Wales – one long road and nothing else. The second he took because you could see the shadow of our plane!

It took us a minute to find the Uber pick up area, then we were instantly on our way. I was a little nauseated during the ride – not nearly enough sleep had that effect on me – but the AC was on high in the back seat and I got better. There were plenty of plain grey Soviet-looking buildings, but also pretty, ornate buildings from the past.

Our hotel is just off a main street downtown. We came from the back and it seemed in a very quiet, nowhere area. Our room has AIR CONDITIONING!! As forecast it was not very humid when we went to get our ride, but it was hot! The kind of hot where you think the air is burning you without even having the wet in the air to help put it out. Forecast tomorrow is 100F. Here is the view from our room:

When we went out to get some pizza for dinner, there were tons of people and restaurants. Pizza was very easy. It is already cooked and you just point at a pizza and she hacks some off and weighs it. Three kinds and two 7UP zero were $19. Pretty reasonable.

We grocery shopped for breakfast items and beverages for the room – and some snacks for the bus trip tomorrow. It was $20 for quite a bit of stuff, including nectarines and bananas and grapes and Oreos in a tube and soda. Nice.

We found a restaurant that mists people who are sitting outside. The current plan is to eat there tomorrow, but in case we don’t, here is a picture. I remember when they first started misting veg at the grocery store. I used to just stand there and wait for it to happen it was so exciting. I would love to be misted while I ate.

I loved the early-ish flight from MSP. We had really short naps on the plane, because it was entirely be-awake-time for the entire flight. We should have slept in the lounge (and I might have tried if the LOUDEST young adult Americans hadn’t been yelling at each other for most of our time there) (and drinking their way through the serve yourself alcohol selection). We got to our room at 3pm and slept hard for three hours then enjoyed the evening without feeling tired. I am getting tired now and hope (HOPE) I sleep some hours in a row tonight. Fingers crossed!

We are not in Budapest yet…..
