Flowers

Today’s potd is of flowers formerly ours. This wisteria vine is in our old yard, but the flowers must like the morning sun, because they are mostly on the neighbors’ (us now) side of the fence. I am enjoying them greatly. My friend, Betsy, gave me some yellow iris a few years ago and they are going great in several places. I went to visit them while I was supposed to be pruning the lilacs. Pruning is not really very fun.

I have to mention that neighbor, Maren, is chaperoning the 8th grade field trip to Washington DC. She got up at 1:30am to leave by 2:30am to be at the airport before kids arrived for the 5am flight on Southwest. They loaded 109 8th graders on a plane with free-for-all seating, flew to St. Louis to catch a connecting flight, did free-for-all seating again, then flew to DC where one kid’s suitcase was scanned into the airport, but was not to be found. That kid has allergies, so the case was full of snacks that were allergy-okay. Next time I am thinking I don’t want to do something, I could imagine that schedule. I think I will be okay with whatever I have to do.

I made a ham this morning. We had no potatoes, so of course I was able to make about a quart of really good gravy.

Some people do not even know ham gravy exists. Oooo. Remember my friend, Betsy, from paragraph one? She doesn’t like gravy. I think. That is coming from about 25 years ago, so maybe it’s not her. I think it is. Or she doesn’t drink while eating dinner. Hmm. Maybe it’s neither of those. I wonder why I think it was her. At least I remember something. We made up a new word the other day. Ponk. It means you have so thoroughly forgotten something that you don’t even know if you once knew it. This seems to happen to us a lot. One of us talks about something from the past and the other one just stares. Was I there? Did that happen? Seriously? That kind of thing. You use ponk like this – I totally ponked that. Enjoy using it once you get to a certain age.

  1. Ham gravy is a favorite. I bought a ham from Jones Dairy(I know pork at a Dairy-LOL). It was 30% off. Half is in the freezer and the other half is rotting in the fridge. I need to make it so we can have ham gravy. Mmmmmm
