Indecisive squirrels on Percussion Rock Road

We met Gary and Julie (the MN ones) at Frank Lloyd Wright’s house, Taliesin, for the start of our anniversary year gathering with them.

I am a big fan of FLW’s work (who isn’t?), but have never been here. His architectural ideas were very interesting – he was all about gathering spaces. Functional spaces like kitchens and bathrooms and bedrooms were not his jam. His mind was constantly changing and improving his home – craftsmanship was not of interest to him, because he assumed everything would just be knocked down and redone in two years or two months or two weeks. His students did a lot of the building – and they were learning on the job. He certainly made some amazing spaces. Our guide pointed out if you hired FLW to build your house, you better be ready to give him a blank check. He was reaaaalllly expensive.

Not only did we visit his house, but also the school of architecture. It wasn’t a regular school with classes and grades, but more of a fellowship of those wanting to work with FLW.

We met Gary and Julie at the Silver Star bed and breakfast. We saw several dead squirrels on the road, which seemed really odd. They asked if we’d noticed and wondered how it could be. Julie was concerned that someone had been shooting squirrels. We headed out to dinner and drove the same curvy tree lined road we’d come in on. Suddenly Keith was braking as two squirrels started to cross then ran in circles. It was only because we screeched to a stop that they were not dead. We knew then that the squirrels had not been shot. They were just indecisive.

We went to dinner at Arthur’s Supper Club. My food was delicious. I love a filet so much.
