Mystic Pizza

We went to the Ordway to see the jukebox musical Mystic Pizza tonight. The Julia Roberts 1988 movie was not a musical, so the show is actually called Mystic Pizza: The Musical. Tee hee. Neither of us remember anything about the movie – including if we ever saw it. I enjoyed the music – 80s and 90s tunes that I knew all the words to – but the book had some weird plot holes or inconsistencies. I said that at intermission and Keith responded, “There’s a plot?” He had not noticed my issues as issues and I decided I was thinking way too hard about a musical. The cast was terrific, even if the men were undermiked.

I went to Mystic Pizza in Mystic, Connecticut, when I was on my New England road trip with Nancy ten years ago. The pizza was really good, but what I remember most was I parked illegally. Or something like that. We were parked behind the restaurant in their parking lot (I think), but it gave some kind of limit – not after 7? one hour only? only until restaurant closed? I can’t remember, but after we ate, Nancy suggested we walk across the street to a bookstore and I was splinky about the parking. Nancy was sure that our minor infraction would not be a problem and commented, “You really are a rule follower.” Yeeeesssssssss! It is my defining characteristic!! You learn so much from travel.
