The Search for Tuna

Tuesday, May 27, 2025

I bought celery over the weekend so I could make tuna noodle salad. I was motivated by seeing two cans of tuna while moving food around to different refrigerators. The big refrigerator swap was ours was coming with us, the new house’s was going to Maren’s old house, and Maren’s refrigerator was coming with her. I moved my fridge contents to my new house – both upstairs and downstairs. I figured I would have to empty the upstairs one soon, so I put everything that wasn’t being used daily (milk, butter, soda, lunch meat, etc) downstairs. When my old fridge arrived, I would bring everything up.

I boiled the macaroni while cleaning up the kitchen this morning. I thawed the peas and chopped the celery. I mixed up the milk and mayo and celery salt. After cooling the pasta, I mixed everything together. We settled in front of Jeopardy to have lunch. Keith is the taster, and he had deemed the mayo mixture just right. I took my first bite and burst out laughing. Keith was in the kitchen getting milk and asked why. I said I sometimes think funny things.

He started eating. I asked how it was. Good! Bite, then another, then a third. He chewed, then looked at me. “There is no tuna in this.”

I laughed again! We forgot the tuna!

We looked for the tuna upstairs. That made no sense, because it wasn’t an every day thing. He looked downstairs. Nothing.

Mmmm.

I started looking in the pantry places. Where are the pantry places? I am unsure. I opened cabinet and drawers and looked for food. I looked in the kitchen. I looked in the laundry room.

No tuna.

Keith relooked in the basement fridge and found one can. But what about the two cans I saw? I wondered if I had seen two cans in 1998 and was just remembering them. I have no idea.

We split the noodles and made one can’s worth. It was good. We are going to chop up ham lunch meat tomorrow and make a new thing. Exciting.

Keith would like to report he emptied two boxes. They were the boxes that the new electric leaf blower and trimmer came in. I said if you didn’t have to wonder what was in the box or what to do with it, it does not count as unpacking a box. I think I did one box. I moved a bunch of boxes around, so that is something.

  1. Hee hee. Once upon a time I tried to serve tator top hot dish to the family. About two minutes after it got to the table, we all realized “no tator tots.” So I guess I really just served shepherds pie.

  2. Nice recipe but please serve my peas and celery on the side and sub slivered almonds for the celery.😊
