Code Name Anika

We went to Theater Latte Da tonight to see The Glass Menagerie. We both think we read it in high school, but had never seen it, nor did we remember much. It was very good. The set was super cool. They used a video camera carried by Tom (narrator and character) to zoom in on some of the characters – shown on the giant screen that was the backwall of the set. Right before intermission, Tom turned the camera on the audience. The actors were great – their accents were just right to me. A true high point was the music. It’s not a musical, but there was a score for most of the show. On the program it said, “why are memories always set to music?” Neither Keith nor I thought that was a thing (Keith was especially surprised that he didn’t have a soundtrack for memories). We talked about the fact that this is a play, not a musical, then Keith noticed there was as piano (there actually wasn’t). It was way more than a piano. I heard someone call the wine glasses a glass harmonica – what a great term. He used a bow (like from a violin) on all sorts of the stuff sitting around him. The music was beyond perfect – I wouldn’t even be aware of it and then I was and it was amazing.

Just after we sat down, the people coming to sit right in front of us arrived. The man to their left asked if one of them was Nancy (confirmed) and said that was a note to Nancy from Latte Da and indicated a note taped the armrest between them. He detached it and gave it to her. The woman to their right made a comment about how that was interesting and I leaned about 3 inches forward (theater seats – quite close) and said no one ever taped notes to my chair. She agreed that she would enjoy a note, too, and suggested we write them for each other next time. Agreed. Then she said we didn’t know each other’s name. I said I was going to call her Kathy and she said Anika. I thought she meant her name was Anika (it was Anne) and she said I was Anika. I LOVE the name Anika!! I would change my name to Anika in an instant.

After intermission, she was hiding a note on my seat. HOW GREAT IS THAT?????

    1. We used our regular season ticket seats – perhaps she will be there next time. I will have a note ready!
