Cold Enough

Sunday, December 14, 2025

Last night about midnight, our very smart thermostat sent Keith a message that said the house was 5° colder than it was set for. Mmm. Set to 60, but only 55.

Why do furnaces wait until weekend – one with the coldest temperatures – and when we are out of town – to break? It’s just mean. Maren came over first thing this morning to confirm cold, check breakers, and generally check things out. Confirmed cold. Tom and Louise came a bit later and they did all the things to try to at least figure out what was going on. Tom ruled out a bunch of things but couldn’t get heat. (He did bring space heaters over, so that is terrific.)

It is so amazing to have helper friends – and indescribable to have friends you don’t even have to hesitate to call when you need them.

We drove an hour farther north to Virginia, MN. The 3:00 concert went well. I enjoyed it, which was a surprise to me. I thought I didn’t really like traditional Finnish music.

We drove 3 hours home and here we are – sitting in front of the gas fireplace. The furnace man comes tomorrow at 9:30am. We have a heat-up-able bed. We will be fine. But darn you, furnace.

    1. The furnace turned on in the night. Fixer is still coming to try to figure out what happened
