Fog and Crab

It’s Nancy’s birthday! Happy birthday!!

I went down to the beach mid-morning to call the birthday girl. The forecast called for fog today, which seemed weird because fog goes away when the sun shines on it. Except apparently not in Myrtle Beach, because it was foggy all day. I really like fog, so I liked the day.

Keith and I walked 2 miles down the beach. It is so easy to just keep walking, crunching on shells and talking about everything. We took lots of pictures, because everything looked so cool in the fog. The pictures are not nearly as cool as real life.

Gary and Julie got refilled drink buckets today. I didn’t throw one on the ground. They were frozen icee drinks. I’m going to have one tomorrow. Maybe. Gary, Keith, and I look a bit pink tonight because it didn’t really even seem sunny while we were out all afternoon. Whoops on the sunscreen. We’ll do better tomorrow.

We went to Benjamin’s Calabash Seafood Buffet for dinner.

The specialty was crab legs. Gary and Julie are seafood eaters but had never done crab leg cracking. Gary said it wasn’t worth the effort after his first couple tries – super tasty but too much work. Not daunted, Julie gave it a try. First, she was demonstrated a crabby face, then I caught her concentration face. She let me try and I love crunching crabs! It is so much fun. I do NOT want to eat them, so I see a future in crabmeat retrieving for others.

I caught a ride to our next stop, the GTS Theater

We went to a History of Rock and Soul concert today. Gary specifically said he wanted live music – no tracks – and that is how the show was advertised.

There were tracks.

The performers were all good – to varying degrees (I thought one guy was really good and one guy was just okay). They started off with the 50s, under the guise of coming to a record store and singing “along with the records.” As the decades progressed, they brought out guitars and pretended to be playing to the tracks. It was pretty lame, and rather disappointing for those who wanted live music, but the selection of the tunes was really good and we forgave them.

The absolutely BEST part of the show was when “Joe” brought out a saxophone and “played” the sax solos on a tune. He wasn’t exactly holding it right, and definitely wasn’t moving his fingers correctly, but people clapped after his solo!!! They thought he was playing!! Toward the end of the tune, he stopped playing saxophone (while the solo was still going on) to switch to the piano, which started before he got there. He then played the piano very definitely on the wrong end (high end to go with the low notes??) We hooted and a bunch of people clapped for his second sax solo.

It could have been disappointing, but we all had a great time, I think because we decided to have a great time! Yay us.
