Iowa

We drove to Iowa today. It’s farther than you think. We did have some interesting sights, as well as lots of beautiful green fields.

We went to a pannekoeken restaurant in Rochester for lunch. It was not as good as our beloved Pannekoeken Huis at home was, but it was a far sight better than no pannekoeken.

Wurst Fest started with each of the brass bands performing two matches in three locations – ala a UK Whit Friday performance. I sat with friends and enjoyed all 5 bands. I was surprised to find Mike AND Mary (Mary stepped up to sub on percussion. Way to go, Mary!) in the first band. Keith had told me their band wasn’t coming, so .. surprise!

We hung out chatting with people for a while, then went to a late dinner with Mike and Mary. Keith didn’t get a chance to go back to the hotel to put his horn away, so he was just a guy carrying a flugelhorn around all night. It got its own chair at dinner.

  1. Wow… My long-time friend and co-author of the last book, Scott Watson, was at THE SAME CONCERT! He sent me a photo and a note. Wish you guys had all been able to connect… Oh, well…. Enjoy the rest of the festival!
