We went to see Josh Groban, but first we had to suffer through Jennifer Hudson screaming at us. Man, it was loud. I could feel my left ear drum vibrating in an unpleasant way. Every note the bass player played shook my seat. Making it a multisensory ick, she was just backlit the whole time and the bright spotlight was straight in our eyes. I had to keep my eyes closed.
Josh came out at 9:00 and everything was all better. My favorite part was when he read a sign someone was holding up close to the stage. He responded, “You want to sing a duet on The Prayer with me? That’s a heavy song.” He started to continue his walk across stage while introducing the next tune, then said, “You know what?” and turned and went down the stairs into the audience. He had the woman join him (Carly Bash, I think she said her name was) and started – in English, then changed to Italian – The Prayer. She did a great job! He did a great job! It was spontaneous. I liked it a lot.
He recently recorded a new album of movie songs. His dad played trumpet in college, then stopped. Josh told his dad he had two weeks to get ready to play with him on Moon River. He sang along with a video of his dad playing – his dad did a great job.
He talked about getting recently engaged and asked if anyone else had recently gotten engaged. He talked to Callie and Steve (Steeeeeeve) and found out they have been engaged for three years. He made a lot of jokes about Steve that made me laugh. He ended with Raise Me Up and Bridge over Troubled Waters and I left happy.
