Quintet Rehearsal

Sunday, June 14, 2026

Keith is subbing in a quintet that is playing at Wurst Brass Fest next weekend. They planned a rehearsal at Dan’s house to get ready. Dan had the great idea (that sounds sarcastic. It’s not. It was a great idea) to invite the neighbors and have the rehearsal outside. The quintet was actually born during the pandemic when we organized it to do exactly that – play outside in our cul-de-sac, far away from each other, just to have a chance to play. The other four guys were ready to go into some churches to play for the live stream services (and stuff like that), but Keith wasn’t. They got another trumpet player and have been playing together ever since. The other guy isn’t going to Wurst Fest, so Keith is subbing.

It was a really nice turn out. Anne and Dave, Jeffrey, Johanna and Adalynn all came. Our former neighbors, Karen and Dan, saw mention of it on Facebook and came! We haven’t seen them in a number of years, so it was just wonderful to see them. (They moved before we did, twice) The rest of the crowd was from the neighborhood, and they were very enthusiastic and very supportive. I think the group would be welcomed back any time. The crowd was split – shade behind the band, sun in front. The sound was better in the sun, but we in the back were not squinty at all.

Bruce is legend for making rum cake for quintet rehearsals and we got in on it this time. Win, Bruce!

  1. Doing this stuff is the best… We’ve done it with our tuba quartet, too. Just being outside and playing on a sunny day is good for EVERYBODY – even if it’s just a rehearsal. Great to see everybody – musicians and audience.
