A full day

After another night of not sleeping well, or not sleeping at all, I woke up at 11am. I am working on Thursday and Friday and I have no idea how that is going to happen. Days away! Not to worry about now.

We went to the 12:15 showing of The Dog Stars. It is a postapocalyptic Ridley Scott movie, so I was expecting zombies. Keith read that there weren’t even jump scares, so we were good to go. It was good. It was beautiful. It was supposed to be in Colorado but was filmed in Italy. Gorgeous Dolomites! It gave a lot of ideas how different people react to adversity. It stuck with me for the rest of the day.

At 3:30 (not even 2:30, which is actually dentist time) I went to get my tooth fixed. A big chunk fell out Friday. Luckily, it didn’t hurt and it was too far back for my tongue to want to mess with the hole, so it was fine to wait. I took the hole’s picture before I went in. It is hilarious if you are me trying to take a picture of your own tooth. I need a crown, so they did all the things, put on a temporary crown, and told me to come back in a week.

We picked Alexander up at 5:45 to go to The King’s Thai for dinner. We were late because we got behind a car with STUDENT DRIVER on the back. That student should NOT have been driving. She literally almost got crashed into twice within a single block. We both jumped the first time and yelled NO! Not more than 30 seconds later, we yelled NO! again. Luckily, the other drivers were more on the ball.

As we were driving and Keith was remembering the way, he said, “Oh, yeah, we go by Krispy Kreme.” Alexander said you know why that’s a problem for Claire? We did not. She lives the next exit up the road and Krispy Kreme offers $6 boxes of a dozen doughnuts on the Too Good To Go app at the end of the day. Claire said it’s not a problem yet, but it could become one.

After our splendid meal, we set about doing our online order for Krispy Kreme. Alexander looked, and indeed, we could get a dozen for $6 in only an hour – 8:30. He and Keith could each get one, so they did. Or they tried. Keith got his and they were sold out when Alexander tried 6 seconds after Keith. Whiff. We wondered what to do for an hour and realized there was a Sam’s Club two blocks away.

We went grocery shopping and were milling around looking at socks and stuff when I realized the employees were running around and laughing together. The store was closed. They are always very nice there and never throw you out. I asked one time and they said the employees are scheduled 60-90 minutes later, so no one is leaving, just doing jobs around the store, so no need to rush people. We politely did leave and went for doughnuts. Early. We waited a little, then ate some treats.

Keith took a wrong exit on the way home. After exiting onto a different highway and driving a little way, Alexander said, “Where are we? That’s Minneapolis. I don’t live in Murder-apolis.” Whoops. We were on 35W instead of 35E, going to the wrong of the twin cities. I put on the navigation which indeed said, “turn around. Go the other way.” The very best part of the day happened after that. When the direction lady would give a direction, a tiny, tiny little voice from the backseat would say, “Do it.” It gave me all the giggles. He makes me laugh.

At Alexander’s house we picked up some things we had given him that he wasn’t using that I have use for. And petted Colby, who INSISTED. I thought I washed my hands afterward but instead rubbed my eyes and now they are itchy and puffy. Dumb.

It was almost 10 when we got home. I thought I would quickly do the midi and the mini crosswords and go to bed. Instead, I started the regular crossword without realizing and just thought it was a really long hard midi that took me 32 minutes to do. Dumb!

I’m taking my itchy eyes to bed and setting an alarm to practice. I give it about a 25% chance I actually get up when it rings. [Editor (Keith): I give it about a 25% chance she even notices the alarm when it rings.]

    1. Nobody! I definitely turned all the alarms off and went back to sleep. I went back to sleep after he came back in twice to ask if I wanted to get up.
