Book Club

The Backyard Book Club is an off-shoot of the Big Backyard, the group that began in pandemic to meet and just be with others outside. We have continued to meet indoors in the community room at a local grocery store over the winter. Today was supposed to be our return to the outdoors. The weather forecast looked grim (more rain), so I invited everyone over for lunch and talking. I made a pasta dish, brother Dave’s favorite jello, and chocolate cake cups that we filled with ice cream and topped with Girl Scout thin mint whipped cream. (That entire item started with finding Girl Scout thin mint whipped cream at Sam’s Club. How could we say no to that?) I don’t want to admit that my pasta dish included prosciutto which I belatedly realized my Jewish friend would not be able to eat. We messaged and confirmed no pork, then she added a short list of other things that she could not eat. When I handed her her small bowl of meat-free pasta, she looked and quietly asked if those were onions? Onions was on the list!!!!! Auuuughggghhh. I forgot there were onions when I was reading her list, then forgot her list when I actually started cooking. I was very disappointed. She was so gracious, and ate bread and cheese and jello. She brought me lovely hostess/house warming gifts. Auughh.

The talking part of the book club was good, and the not being in the rain was good, and the having our first group of people over was good. I will focus on that!

    1. Thank you! Everything was very accessible in new cupboards. We used stemware because they are the only 8 matching glasses we have 🙂
