Rained out – or not

Wednesday, June 25, 2025

I asked Keith to contact the band president at noon on Monday to encourage him to find a rain out place for the Wednesday concert. The forecast did not look good. I said if they asked one of the three churches adjacent to the park where the band shell is they could get a place in advance and it could be discussed at the rehearsal. I like when I know how to plan. He, indeed, sent a message, but the announcement made at rehearsal was that there was not a place to move to in case of rain – to play or not to play would be decided by 1pm. I was disappointed.

Today, it started raining here about 8am and it rained all day. At some points, it RAINED. We have over 2 inches in the rain gauge Carla found yesterday that I put out front. Red Wing is an hour south of us, but their forecast looked the same as ours. At 12:50, Keith reported no email had been sent yet. I was sure it would be cancelled. We made alternate plans, needing to grocery shop before tomorrow and thinking a $2 movie might be in order. At 1:10 the email came. The show was on! They would play at the Episcopal church right behind the band shell. I was disappointed.

We wondered if anyone would come, because how would they know it was on? If they showed up, there would be a sign Go to the Church!, but who would come out after so much rain, with continued drizzle?

A whole church full of people, that’s who. It was pretty great. The concert was really good. I enjoyed at the pieces. They even let Keith stand up and be special for a little while.

Tom and Louise rode down with us and invited us in for Crumbl cookies afterward. We all tasted all the kinds and it was a sweet end to the day. Speaking of cookies, yesterday’s mystery item is “a vintage Pampered Chef cookie dropper”. Carla made cookies today in order to try it and reported that it was really slick. The tie rack was obvious to those of us over 40.

  1. I want one of those cookie droppers! Somebody should make them again. Meanwhile, I’m off to eBay. Fun *and* educational-: Gotta love the POTD!

  2. Oops–this went on the wrong day. I should also be in the market for a course in better use of online comments. 🙂

    1. Not the wrong day – whatever day has a thought about any day is the right day. And it is definitely still a conversation today
