We went to the movie The Weight starring Ethan Hawke and Russel Crowe. After the movie, it had a live stream Q&A with the director, Ethan Hawke, and Julia Jones (co-star).
The movie was really good. The intent of the creators was to make an old fashioned 1960s/70s style film that was deliberate, with character development and – I don’t know what. I have typed several words here that are not right, but I saw what they tried and succeeded doing. The soundtrack was more SOUND than music – the tense moments were greatly magnified by the grating sounds accompanying them.
During the afterward interviews, they all sang the praises of Mateo the cinematographer. I will have to root for him at the next Academy Awards. They said he was part of the forest, capturing just what needed to be caught. He was underwater and in the trees and on the bridge, all while holding a handheld camera.
