Family Fish Fry

I was feeling well and went to work today. Yay! It was great fun to be back in math. It was sunny and almost 40 when I come out after school, so I put the top down on the car. Wheee.

Alexander encouraged Benjamin to come up for the weekend since he would be lonely without his kitties. He came! We all went out to Obb’s for fish fry. I cleverly did not order the all-you-can-eat portion, because for $1 less I could get the regular fish dinner that came with a delicious salad and garlic bread (gonna have to say that garlic bread with fish fry is a weird call, but it was delicious on its own, so good on me. The salad had the best grape tomatoes. How is that a thing in January?) I knew a single plate would be more than all-I-can-eat. (I was right.) Keith saw a special for baby back ribs and thought he wasn’t hungry enough to do justice to the $20 fish and would order the $23 ribs. He got about 12 pounds of ribs, plus a bowl of au gratin potatoes, garlic bread, and clam chowder. He managed to eat it all.

As he was showing how the meat just fell off the bones, Alexander said to set aside the bones so he could make a necklace out of them (as you do) (or, as he does). Keith set them on a little plate in the middle of the table. When our waitress started clearing dishes, she took the bones plate. We jumped in to say we wanted the bones and she said she would put them in a box. Alexander said he was going to do a craft with them and she didn’t even look weirded out. When Keith announced to her that he was going to take all of the tartar sauce containers (three fish diners and none of them eat tartar sauce) (with reorders of fish, we had 12 little plastics of tartar sauce), she immediately grabbed a bag to put them in. He demurred, saying he would just put them in his pockets. THAT made her laugh. She made me promise to call the restaurant to let her know if he ended up with tartar sauce filled pockets. I was absolutely going to call – but they got home intact.
